Organizing myself has always been a prominent topic in my life.
Throughout my life, I've tried different organizational methodologies, and the truth is that some have worked better for me than others.
I started using Notion and set up complex systems to keep everything as organized as possible.
Then I switched from Notion to iCloud notes and Windows notes (I have an iPhone and a Windows computer).
And finally, I've returned to Notion.
In Notion:
- I jot down pending tasks.
- I store my thoughts.
- I generally store things.
Notes (Apple and Windows):
I jot down anything urgent so I don't forget it, and whenever possible, I transfer it to Notion.
Events I need to attend and reminders go to Google Calendar.
If there's one thing I've learned during this time, and what I want you to take away from here, it's that methodologies have to change and adapt according to your needs.
Your needs aren’t constant.
You're not always in the same historical context of your life; there are months when you need more tranquility, and it's better to jot everything down in Apple Notes instead of Notion.
There are months when you need more complexity, and you set up something more intricate in Notion. Everything is valid; you just have to find and identify the right approach for each moment.
Take inspiration from other organizational methodologies, but ultimately use what works best for you. Everyone has their own needs.
Over time, I've realized that Notion is very useful, but adding too much complexity generates more friction, making it harder for me to add a note.
I've learned that I prefer a simple list of notes with pending tasks, rather than moving tasks through columns.
What has worked best for me so far is keeping the system as simple as possible.
If I can offer you some advice, it's to try to jot down everything you think, everything you need to remember – write it down. Links you might need later, save them.
Don't leave anything to your memory, and maintain a place you can always turn to when needed. Just aim to make the process of creating those notes as frictionless as possible.
Be patient because your perfect organization methodology is based on iteration, on constant improvement.
It's about iteration, not consistency.
The less friction, the better.
