Whew... an interesting week.
Happy? Yes.
Energetic? Yes.
It has really been a good week.
I've finished many things.
I've been productive, well, I've basically used my time as intentionally as possible.
I've organized myself well.
I've set goals for myself and I've achieved them. That's productivity - using your time intentionally.
I've spent time with my family; I've been productive.
I've played video games when I didn't feel like working; that's productive too. It allows me time to be bored, so I can create things later. My creativity needs a break sometimes too.
But there are days... like today, that are challenging.
I went to my room, and it was messy.
I started one task and unintentionally jumped to another, leaving the first one unfinished.
I couldn't seem to finish things.
Hours and hours passed, and I hadn't completed anything. I looked at the clock and thought, it's been 4 hours, and I haven't done anything yet (well, I have, but I haven't finished as I would have liked).
I shaved, and my shaver ran out of battery, leaving me with half a beard for a few hours.
I went to the gym and did less than usual; it's also been the most tired I've felt all day.
And I said, ENOUGH. I took a shower, made myself some coffee, got dressed as if I were going to the office, and put on some cologne, even though I was at home.
This gave me energy.
I tidied up my room, gathered everything, and started being productive.
Sometimes, we don't realize it, but there are things that drain our energy.
Having a messy space drains my energy (at least for me).
The video camera over there, the microphone over here, headphones scattered around, cables everywhere, dust on the computer. Notifications constantly going off.
Sometimes, all we need is to put our lives in order for a few hours and do a mental reset.
As soon as I washed up and got myself in order, I started doing tasks and completing them.
Sleep well, wake up, shower, and get dressed. Clean up, tidy up, and take a walk for some fresh air for 10 minutes. Go to the office and work while you can still smell your cologne.
A trick that works for me: I mention the cologne so much because when I get up, put on my watch, wear my glasses, and apply my cologne, I feel like I mean business. I don't feel like I'm just slouched in my chair in my pajamas working. I feel like I'm at home, as if I were in the office.
P.S. Turn off notifications; they really drain me.
P.P.S. Put on music that calms you. I'll share the latest playlist I made; it's literally called "chilling": [link to Spotify playlist].
P.P.P.S. When you're ready to work, dressed and prepared, make a list and jot down everything you have pending. Writing things down will free up space in your head.
Until next time.
Cheers, Jordi Espinosa.
